Andrew Davies

Andrew graduated from the University of Western Australia with a B. Juris and LLB and was subsequently admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia. Andrew has been practising Family Law for over 30 years and is nationally accredited as a Family Law Specialist, mediator and arbitrator.

Andrew has presented numerous papers and lectures at state, national and international conferences and has been a guest lecturer at Murdoch University Law School. He is also a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner registered with the Attorney General’s Department (FDRP), a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), former Chair of the Family Law & Family Rights Section of LawAsia and current Chair of Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM).

Andrew is a Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).



Martin Bartfeld QC

Martin graduated from Monash University with a B. Juris., LL B. in 1973. He was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1974 and commenced to practise as a solicitor on his own account in Hawthorn in 1975 until signing the Roll of Counsel in 1986. He was admitted to practise as a barrister in New South Wales in 1987. He was appointed as a Queens Counsel in Victoria in 1998.

He practises in Family Law and Domestic Relationships matters in the Family Law Courts and in the Supreme Courts of the States and Territories. He frequently presents papers at seminars and conferences and has written on issues relating to Family Law in professional journals.

He was the chairman of the Family Law Section of the Law Institute of Victoria from 1983 to 1985. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Australia Journal of Family Law.  He was a member of the executive of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia between 2000 and 2012. He was chairman of the Section in 2005.  He is a former Board member of AIFLAM – Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators and is currently involved in the continuing education of Arbitrators around Australia on behalf of AIFLAM.



Chief Justice Alstergren - Family Court of Australia

The Honourable Chief Justice William Alstergren was appointed as Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia on 10 December 2018. His Honour holds a dual commission as Chief Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia, to which he was appointed on 13 October 2017. His Honour is also the administrative head of the Appeal Division of the Family Court of Australia. 

After graduating from Melbourne University in Law (and completing an LLM), Chief Justice Alstergren undertook articles in family law with Kenna Croxford & Co. From 1991 he practiced as a barrister in Melbourne and took silk in 2012. His Honour was regularly briefed in large and complex commercial, family, industrial and tax trials and appeals in the Federal Court and state superior courts.  

He was a member of the Bar Ethics Committee, the founder of the Bar’s Pro Bono Duty Barristers Committee and received the Distinguished Pro Bono Service award by the Victorian Chief Justice in 2008. His Honour is a former Chairman of the Victorian Bar. Immediately prior to coming to the Bench, His Honour was the President of the Australian Bar Association. 

In his spare time, Chief Justice Alstergren enjoys spending time with his family, walking his two kelpies, playing electric guitar, surfing and reading. His Honour enjoys all things Norwegian and supporting the Hawthorn Football Club.
