Catherine has over 26 years experience in nursing, demonstrating diversity in her nursing career from novice nurse, nurse education, clinical nurse management, health infrastructure planning, university lecturing, projects, policy, governance and government business. She has 3 teenage children and aspires to continually contribute to the nursing and midwifery profession.
As with every career there have been challenges – and in these moments Catherine has developed the most. Her interest in workforce, workplace processes and legislation have led her to study a Bachelor of Law and continually reflect on the concept of authentic people centred care, and workplace joy.

As a registered nurse, Frances provides specialist and strategic policy advice to Ministers, the Executive and internal and external stakeholders on complex matters in nursing, the health system, health workforce, regulation and education.
A passionate leader and manager, Frances has a clinical background as a surgical nurse in trauma and orthopaedics and fertility nursing and spent many years working at the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council in a number of roles before joining the Department. Frances has a Bachelor of Nursing Science from James Cook University and a Master of Business Administration from the Australian National University.

Psychosexual Therapist and Social Worker
Candice Care-Unger (she/her) is the Director of Care Rehab. Candice has a dual professional background as a specialist social worker and a qualified Sexologist.
She is an award-winning clinician-researcher with a demonstrated history of working in hospital & community rehabilitation settings for the past 20 years across Sydney, rural New South Wales, Brisbane, Scotland and New York.
Candice is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers and an executive member of the Society of Australian Sexologists. In addition to her clinical work Candice is a skilled educator and facilitator and also lectures for the University of Sydney in the post graduate program for Sexual Health and Reproduction (psychosexual therapy). Candice is sex positive and has a demonstrable commitment to supporting people explore pleasure and connection across the lifespan regardless of physical ability, and has specialised in sexuality and neurological injury, illness or disability.
From being an exceptional, up and coming athlete, Canberra local, Elijah Arranz's life came crashing down at the age of 14 when he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury as a result from a horrific skydiving accident.
With the help of an incredible team of rehabilitation specialists, he now shares his inspiring story about the importance of tenacity and resilience.
Her work examines potential efficiency improvements in the crossover between ‘ageing well’ and ‘care delivery’, by exploring clinical decision making in health services for older adults, including people with cognitive impairment. She enjoys co-designing research to serve people and communities, and sharing learning and inquiry with students, industry networks and professional groups.
University of Canberra Hospital
Dr Philip Gaughwin is a Staff Specialist and Clinical Director of Rehabilitation Medicine for the University of Canberra Hospital for Rehabilitation, Recovery and Research, Canberra Health Services, ACT.
Philip completed medical studies at the Australian National University, and also completed a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge and post-doctoral training in Singapore and Sweden. Philip has worked in hospitals in the ACT and South Coast NSW.
Philip is a former Chair of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFRM) Trainee Committee, and has represented AFRM Trainees on the College Trainee Committee and AFRM Council, in addition to recently serving on the RACP Pomegranate podcast Virtual Editorial Group. Philip has also been a junior medical officer representative for the Canberra Region Medical Education Council (CRMEC) and a Trainee Representative for the Rehabilitation Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (RMSANZ).
